Following a cyber incident that compromised their previous hosting environment, Megan’s Space needed to rapidly implement a secure cloud solution for their critical Access Database. Bridgeall delivered a resilient Azure Virtual Desktop environment that restored operations within weeks whilst enhancing security and enabling flexible remote access for their team.

About Megan’s Space

Megan’s Space SCIO is a Scottish charity founded in 2019 following the tragic loss of Megan Copeland. The organisation’s mission is to prevent youth suicide, reduce self-harm, and promote mental wellbeing for children and young people (up to age 25) who are unable to access timely or affordable support. 

Located in North Ayrshire and operating across Scotland and the UK, Megan’s Space delivers early-intervention therapeutic services, education and prevention programmes in schools and communities, and crucial support to vulnerable young people and their families. 

Challenges facing Megan’s Space

Megan’s Space faced several technical and operational challenges that made modernisation essential. Its 32GB Access Database was hosted in an environment that no longer met security or performance requirements, creating reliability risks for day-to-day operations. The charity needed a secure, cloud-based solution to support up to 25 users with simultaneous access while maintaining data integrity and compliance. 

With limited internal IT resources, Megan’s Space also required a trusted partner to provide managed support, proactive monitoring, and regular maintenance. Strengthening data protection and backup processes was a key priority to safeguard sensitive client information and ensure operational continuity. 

The solution

Bridgeall implemented a secure, cloud-based hosting solution using Microsoft Azure and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) that operates independently from any external networks, eliminating the cross-contamination risks that led to the previous cyber incident. This isolated architecture enables Megan’s Space staff to access their Access Database remotely through a modern, scalable, and reliable platform with secure access for up to 25 users. 

Azure Virtual Desktop was selected for its ability to provide fast, secure access to business-critical data through a familiar Windows interface. Using RemoteApp delivery, staff can access the Access Database application directly without requiring a full desktop environment, providing a streamlined and efficient user experience. The database administrator benefits from a full desktop environment for comprehensive system management and maintenance tasks. Unlike traditional remote desktop or VPN solutions, AVD delivers smooth performance and responsive connectivity, allowing staff to work confidently from anywhere without disruption. The solution integrates with Microsoft 365 Entra ID for unified authentication and leverages Azure Backup and Recovery Services to protect data through automated, point-in-time backups. 

Bridgeall also provides managed IT support, proactive monitoring, and regular maintenance, giving Megan’s Space a cost-effective, secure, and future-ready digital environment.
